This poor parrot was continually harrassed by the cockatoos. But when they flew away, she quietly went about her business. The folks at the railway thought her mate died, leaving her alone.

If you look closely, you can see the joey's legs poking out of mama's pouch.

Yet again, not a good photo, but it was my first sight of wild kangaroos. They were off before there was time for another click of the shutter.

It was amazing to see what, to me, are such exotic birds flying around the forest canopy in such large numbers. The cockatoos and parrots were everywhere!

Brush fires are the way of things here. As we drove through the mountains, our guide Barry pointed out how a lot of the trees looked burned (like those here) and a lot didn't. Those that did have knobbly bark and and they don't shed their bark, so have that freshly burned look. The trees that looked as though they hadn't been touched (but were clearly old enough to have been there during the fire) have a smooth bark that sheds off periodically as well as after every fire.

The Grose Valley in the Blue Mountains.

How amazing it is that everything here burns and regenerates, that without the burning there wouldn't be such life.

It had rained so much the day we went to the Blue Mountains, something fairly unusual apparently, that the falls were in full spate. What a beautiful sight!
